Early in the morning
I dared go out and open a window.
The sun greeted my morning foray
And deserted me promptly.
The clouds rose
Fair weather hiding
Winds at breakneck speed
Horses galloping.
The orchids gazing intently
At the sun’s teasing morning gift
Sang their weekday song
Violets, fuschias and whites.
Closing the window
Beside me a kitten lay curled
Unknowing, uncaring
Of storms and sunrises.
Umbrellas for kittens
Raincoats for grown-ups
Sunshine for orchids
The passing of time for me.
